Echuca Patch
Also known as: Enchuca Patch
Echuca Patch is a large ridge on the Pacific side of Kavieng, where currents can be strong. The top is dominated by hard corals such as staghorn, cabbage and large table corals, with anemones and their clownfish, soft corals, sea whips and gorgonians. Schools of barracuda, jacks, fusiliers, snappers, batfish and sweetlips gather around the ridge. Grey and whitetip reef sharks, Spanish mackerel, dogtooth tuna, turtles and occasional eagle rays are also reported. The scuttled Der Yang lies on its side near the ridge, so many dives combine reef and wreck.
