Pigeon Island
Also known as: Güvercin Ada · Güvercin Adası
Pigeon Island is a very calm, sheltered site, which makes it a favourite for snorkellers, students and divers returning after a break. The shallow rocks swarm with rabbitfish and bream, and a white marble shark sculpture by Kemal Tufan, left from an underwater art exhibition, surprises first-time divers. Deeper down, the scattered remains of the old wooden wreck 'La Villa' lie at about 21 to 22 metres, and a small reef at 28 metres is known for friendly striped groupers and heaps of broken amphorae. A sheet-metal wreck sunk as an artificial reef and the nearby Tank Wreck add more options, and gobies with their shrimp partners live in the soft sand.
