El Fanous West
Also known as: Dorfa El Fanous West
Boats moor inside the calm Fanous lagoon in almost any weather, and divers leave through a narrow channel in the reef wall. Outside lies a coral garden with two large ergs and several smaller pinnacles, the farthest about 50 m from the reef and well worth the swim. When the current runs along the outer wall from north-east to south-west, the site is dived as a drift back to the lagoon. Painted triggerfish, moray eels, octopus and turtles are common. Dolphins regularly pass through, often in the afternoon.
