Rempart Canon
Also known as: Canon · Cannon
The site faces the cliff of the Medine sugar estate, near a river that runs mainly in the rainy season. A cannon on the small rampart is said to come from the Banda, a Dutch East India Company ship carrying Ming porcelain that sank in a cyclone in 1615, and blue painted porcelain shards can still be found among the rocks. The reef runs along a sandbank between about 11 and 20 m, which makes it good for buoyancy practice and Open Water training. Reef fish, garden eels, rays, lobsters and small crustaceans make it a favourite for macro photography.
