Cabeço da Sapata
Cabeço da Sapata is the rock off Ponta da Sapata, the south-western point of the main island. According to the wreck researcher Maurício Carvalho, the rock rises from more than 70 m to just under 2 m at low tide, and the navy corvette Ipiranga sank in 1983 after striking it. Both local dive centres give 42 m as the depth of the dive. PADI classes it as a drift, reef and wall dive, with sharks, dolphins and turtles among the common sightings. It lies inside the Marine National Park.
