USS Tucker
Also known as: USS Tucker (DD-374)
The Tucker was a Mahan-class destroyer that struck a friendly mine on 4 August 1942 because her captain had not been told about the new minefield. The ship lies broken into sections on sand, with the stern still recognisable, a scattered middle part with boilers and machinery, and the bow section. Pacific Dive rates it a very easy dive, and Dive Adventures mentions swim-throughs lit through portholes and open bulkheads. Corals and sponges grow on the gun mounts and rails, and coral trout, sweetlips, angelfish and batfish are regularly seen. Visibility is usually very good because of the site's position between Santo and Malo.
