Submarine Nets

Also known as: Sub Nets

During the war, heavy chain nets ran along the channel between Espiritu Santo and Aore Island to keep enemy submarines out of the harbour. After they collapsed, coral settled on the metal, and the nets now form an unusual artificial reef. Divers see hard corals and large gorgonian fans growing over the old chains, with plenty of fish around them. Aoredise says the remains run from about 15 m to beyond 40 m.
