Ligid Caves
Also known as: Big Ligid · Big Liguid · Ligid Island
Big Ligid, off the north-eastern tip of Samal, is described by Dive Happy as one of Davao's signature sites. Its limestone wall drops to around 20 m, where a large triangular cave opens at the base; Asia Dive Site says the caves split in two at 17 to 20 m, and PuertoParrot mentions a cave with three entrances leading into a corridor. Corals, gorgonians, black corals and soft corals cover the wall, and the caves shelter small reef fish and sponge crabs. Currents bring packs of barracuda and whitetip sharks and also improve the visibility. At night the west side is covered in golden sea cucumbers and basket stars.
