Hon Tai North
Also known as: Hon Thai North
Hon Tai, the 'ear island', is one of the strictly protected islets of the Cham Islands marine protected area and is usually visited on an organised boat trip from Hoi An. Dive guides treat it as two sites, north and south, and name Hon Tai as the best diving in the archipelago. A fringing reef with hard and soft corals lines the northern shore of the islet. Divers report lionfish, clownfish, triggerfish, sea cucumbers, shrimps and crabs, and visitors describe swimming over large rock ledges and valleys. Snorkellers visit the shallow reef on the northern shore, which a snorkelling guide describes as fairly damaged, with crown-of-thorns starfish present.
