Junkers Ju 88 Wreck
Also known as: WWII German Junkers aircraft wreck
The twin-engined bomber came down in 1942 and lies about 3 km offshore. The cockpit, fuselage and wings are largely intact, so the outline of the aircraft is easy to read, although the cockpit area shows damage. Evelin Dive Center counts it among the best preserved Ju 88 wrecks in the Mediterranean. The metal now works as an artificial reef that draws big groupers, amberjack, barracuda and lionfish. Accounts suggest a mechanical failure rather than combat brought it down, and at least one of the crew survived.
