Cantarell

Also known as: Cantarel · Eagle Ray Wall

The site is famous for the spotted eagle rays that congregate along the northern walls of Cozumel in the cooler months, with groups of up to about 20 animals reported. The dive is planned from the shallows to the right notch on the wall, and divers wait quietly at roughly 24 m for the rays to swim by. Currents here can be very strong and sometimes run downwards, and there are few other boats around, so operators take only experienced divers and recommend nitrox. The shallows hold juvenile fish, razorfish and the occasional seahorse. The name comes from the former Hotel Cantarell on the shore.
