Navy Patrol Wrecks

Also known as: Laguna de Mandinga · Laguna de Patzcuaro · P-74 Laguna de Mandinga · PC-321 Lago de Pátzcuaro

The Laguna de Mandinga is the larger of the two, a coastal patrol boat built in Acapulco in 1960 that once patrolled the waters near Cancun and Isla Mujeres. The Laguna de Patzcuaro, built in Mexico City in 1961, is much smaller and sits close behind it. Both hulls are now covered with new coral growth, sponges and fish, which makes the pair a relaxed first wreck dive. Between the wrecks lies a line of live rock that was moved here from Paradise Reef in 2014 when a new cruise pier was built. Boat traffic is heavy in the area, so divers tow a surface marker buoy, and the current near Las Casitas can run north to south and pull hard.
