SS Clan Stuart
Also known as: Clan Stuart
The 3,500 ton ship was carrying coal and could not be refloated despite months of salvage attempts. Little of the hull survives, but the engine parts, the shaft and a big cast iron propeller remain recognisable at about 7 to 9 m. Divers enter from Mackerel Beach and swim a short way to the wreck, using the protruding engine as a landmark. The steel has become an artificial reef with corals and bryozoans inside and red bait and coralline algae outside, visited by cuttlefish, electric rays, pyjama sharks and shysharks. It is a popular first wreck for new divers and snorkellers, but swell can make the entry difficult.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
