C-47 Dakota Wreck

Also known as: C-47 Dakota Airplane Wreck · C47 Dakota Uçak Batığı · Douglas C 47 A Dakota airplane wreck · C-47 Dakota Aircraft Wreck

The C-47 Dakota is a Douglas transport plane retired by the Turkish Air Force and sunk by BOSAD near Paçoz Bay on Karaada to serve as an artificial reef. The aircraft is about 20 metres long with a wingspan of about 30 metres and rests on rocky ground. In 2010 the wreck broke into two parts, and the tail section slid deeper to over 30 metres. Large groupers and schools of bream circle the wreck, making it popular with photographers. One diver-written entry advises against going inside because the structure has become unstable, and everything of interest can be seen from outside.
