The Strip

Also known as: The Line

The Strip is a single thin reef line, only a few metres wide, that runs north to south across a sand and algae plain not far from Alice Town harbour. It rises up to about 3 m from the bottom and has many small ledges and overhangs where octopus, spotted morays, reef crabs and spiny lobster hide. Large schools of grunts and snappers gather along it, and nurse sharks, southern stingrays and peacock flounder appear on the sand around it. The maximum depth is around 12 m, which suits divers of every level. Operators often use it as the shallower second dive of a trip and as a night dive.
