South West Breaker

The breaker is built by vermetid worms and algae rather than coral, which makes it unusually hard. Snappers, grunts and hogfish swarm around its walls and overhangs, and the tunnel holds glassy sweepers, moray eels and lobsters. In summer the tunnel can fill with silversides, and large schools of barracuda sometimes pass overhead. Brain corals cover the area, and yellow cleaner wrasse work many cleaning stations. The shallow depth suits snorkellers as well as divers.
