Maamigili Beyru
Also known as: Maamigili Beru · Maamigili Outside
The reef top starts shallow with a coral-covered plateau and then slopes or drops as a wall to deep sand. Divers drift along it with the reef on one shoulder or the other, depending on the tide. Whale sharks can be seen throughout the year, and some are believed to be resident in the area. Besides them, mantas, eagle rays, mobulas, turtles, reef sharks and schooling fish visit the edge, with morays, lionfish and nudibranchs on the reef. Fishing and chasing whale sharks are prohibited, and heavy boat traffic makes a surface marker buoy essential.
