The Guardian

Also known as: Guardian Blue Hole · Guardian Inland Blue Hole

The Guardian is a pristine inland blue hole whose surface water is fresh and grows saltier with depth, with visibility clearing sharply below the murky top layers. A permanent guideline leads about 400 ft into the cave, past a wall of stalactites and into an enormous chamber. Near the entrance divers pass through sulphur layers that look like rings, where a barracuda known as the guardian of the hole waits. The dive is done in fully redundant cave equipment with guides from Small Hope Bay Lodge. It is reached by a short walk along a rough trail.
