Amphitheatre

Also known as: Amphitheater · Andros Island - Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre is a wide sandy floor surrounded by coral walls that climb towards the surface, giving the site its name. Stingrays and goatfish feed on the sand, and a resident sea turtle is often found nearby. Gullies in the walls create swim-throughs where groupers and snappers hide, and parrotfish, wrasse and hamlets crowd the coral heads. A cave at the back of the amphitheatre is lit by sunbeams that show off its sponges. Some swim-throughs to the east lead deeper towards the drop-off into the Tongue of the Ocean.
