Stargate Blue Hole

Also known as: Stargate

Stargate lies about 500 m inland from the east coast of South Andros, close to the road, and divers jump into it from the rim several metres above the water. Below, a shaft drops past 80 m while rift passages run north and south for about 100 m each. The north passage is a wide tunnel whose walls are covered in flowstone and other formations. A layer of hydrogen sulphide sits in the upper water, and divers pass through a crack in the wall to reach the passages. National Geographic featured the hole in a cover story.
