Sanganeb is an isolated, atoll-shaped coral reef in the central Red Sea about 25 km off Port Sudan, forming one component of a UNESCO World Heritage marine site.
Sanganeb Marine National Park is an isolated, atoll-shaped coral reef structure surrounded by water up to 800 m deep. Gazetted in 1990 as Sudan's first marine national park, it was inscribed in 2016 as part of a UNESCO World Heritage property, the only World Heritage site in the Red Sea to date. The atoll contains 13 distinct biophysiographic reef zones and is a well-known liveaboard destination noted for hammerhead shark encounters.
