C-56 Juan Escutia Wreck
Auch bekannt als: Juan Escutia C-56 · C-56 Juan Escutia Shipwreck · C- 56 Juan Escutia · Barco Hundido - Wreck Cadete Juan Escutia C-56 · C56 Wreck · Barco Cañonero Juan Escutia
The ship served the US Navy in the Atlantic during the Second World War, later belonged to the Mexican Navy and was sunk on purpose inside the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park as an artificial reef. Coral now covers the whole hull, and schools of bait fish attract predators, with barracudas and large snappers living on the wreck. Spotted eagle rays pass over it in season, and stingrays and morays are found around it. The hull was cut open before the sinking, so advanced divers can enter the engine room and the cabins, and a gun is still on the deck. Koox Diving takes only divers with an Advanced Open Water certification to the wreck.
