Black Coral I is one of a pair of neighbouring sites that Avalon describes together. The top of the reef lies at about 24 m and sandy channels at about 30 m cut through it towards the drop-off. There, a resident population of more than 30 Caribbean reef sharks swims very close to divers. The rest of the dive follows coral formations and sand channels with resting southern stingrays, parrotfish, large black groupers and jacks, and black coral colonies grow on the reef. Undercurrent's reviewer also saw garden eels and permits on the sand flats.
