Washing Machine

Washing Machine takes its name from the unpredictable currents that can switch direction in the middle of a dive at this exposed corner of the North Atoll. Divers drift over a reef cut by deep fissures where stingrays, turtles, nurse sharks and whitetips shelter from the flow. On the wall, barrel sponges, soft corals and large gorgonian fans profit from the nutrient-rich water. Visibility here has a reputation for being among the best in the park, so manta rays, eagle rays and the odd whale shark can be spotted from a distance. Surge near the reef calls for good buoyancy and staying close to the guide.
