Petit Tombant lies on the outer slope of the L'Étang-Salé lagoon, less than five minutes by boat behind the barrier reef. A sandy amphitheatre of charcoal-coloured sand is edged by a small drop-off and a coral plateau. Plongée Salée counts it among the three best-preserved coral sites of Réunion and says about 80 % of the island's marine species can be seen here. Turtles, large parrotfish and leaf fish are common, and a guitarfish sometimes rests on the black sand. Its simple layout suits beginners and training dives.
