Salang Bay

Salang Bay on Tioman's northwest coast offers several reefs that are dived straight from the beach: North Reef, Middle Reef north of the jetty and the South Reef, all between about 2 and 14 m. Plate, brain and staghorn corals grow on bommies and rock outcrops over sand, and turtles, bumphead parrotfish, batfish, clownfish, nudibranchs and leopard morays are regular sightings. Every year around February and March cuttlefish gather on Middle Reef to display and attach their eggs among the hard corals, and the sandy areas hold gobies with their shrimps, black-banded rays and small pufferfish. With a gently sloping sandy bottom and little depth, the bay is ideal for training, buoyancy practice and night dives.
