Ruby Rock
California Diving News presents Ruby Rock as proof that California has spectacular wall dives. The rock at the cove's eastern point is separated from the island by a channel with walls on both sides, and the western point drops vertically to near 110 ft. Deep cracks in the walls hold rockfish, rock scallops, nudibranchs and red gorgonians, some carrying tiny simnia snails. Shallow boulders on the west side shelter lobsters and horn sharks, and tube anemones and halibut live on the sand below the walls. A cave in the cove should be left alone because of surge.
