Verde Island Drop Off
Also known as: San Agapito · Drop Off · Pinnacles
Two rocky tips showing above the waves mark this site, the tops of a submerged mountain whose walls drop to around 70 m and, in places, much deeper. Huge gorgonian fans, barrel and basket sponges, black coral trees and plate and staghorn corals cover the reef, and anthias and red-toothed triggerfish swarm along its lip. At the corner where the current hits, guides let experienced groups hang on and watch jacks, tuna, snappers, sweetlips and giant trevally feed in the flow. On the gentler side of the pinnacle, streams of volcanic gas bubbles rise from the seabed. Currents are strong and can pull downward, so operators plan negative entries and dive the site with an experienced guide.
