Blackfish Corner
Blackfish Corner lies at the western point of Verde Island, around 45 minutes by boat from Puerto Galera. A pinnacle starting at about 20 m falls away past 100 m, so recreational divers stay near the top while technical divers continue down to overhangs, giant gorgonians and a school of blackfish. Red-toothed triggers, lionfish, jacks, batfish and nudibranchs crowd the shallower part. The dive typically ends by ascending through a forest of gorgonians onto a sandy, colourful reef at about 6 m for the safety or decompression stop. Strong and unpredictable currents can reduce visibility but bring the nutrients that feed the fish life.
