Ninepin Point Marine Reserve

A system of reefs runs about 100 metres from shore into the Huon River estuary. The dark, tannin-rich river water cuts the light and draws species normally found much deeper into the shallows. Bearded rock cod, weedfish, pipefish and leatherjackets are common, and the inshore kelp gardens are pretty. A gate closes the access road, so divers either get a key or walk the short way down to the shore. The site is sheltered except in heavy southerly weather.
