Guraidhoo Corner

The Guraidhoo channel is protected as a marine area. The reef Medhu Faru divides it into two passes, Losfushi Kandu to the north and Guraidhoo Kandu to the south. At the corner the reef starts very shallow, slopes to about 12 metres and then drops vertically to a ledge around 35 to 40 metres. Incoming currents can be strong and create down currents and washing-machine effects inside the channel. Inside the pass the walls carry soft corals, sea fans, black coral and caves, including an archway at about 30 metres. Besides sharks and pelagic fish, mantas and occasionally whale sharks are reported.
