Sanganeb North
Also known as: Sanganeb - North Point · Sanganeb North Plateau
An elongated plateau extends from the northern point of the atoll, starting in shallow water at about 4 m. Below its first step a slope covered in soft and hard corals runs down into a channel at about 25 m, before the plateau rises again and ends in a steep drop-off. Royal Evolution describes it as a deep dive with a lower plateau at 45 m where schooling hammerheads are common and grey reef sharks, silvertips and whitetips are regular. Shoals of mackerel, fusiliers and snappers pass along the outer side, where soft corals and sea fans grow into the current. Since the north side is exposed to the prevailing wind, swell and current, boats only visit it in calm seas, and manta rays are sometimes seen here.
