Black Rock
Black Rock on the west side of Kawe Island is big enough that operators dive it more than once. Dives often start on the north-west side, where small pinnacles with soft corals and sea fans lead down to black coral bushes at 15 to 25 m, some of them several metres tall, with sweetlips, snappers and batfish sheltering among them. Marble rays cross the sand at depth, mantas sometimes pass in the blue and hawksbill and green turtles rest on the reef. Towards the northern end, pinnacles covered in Tubastrea corals form overhangs where pygmy seahorses and nudibranchs live. Currents can be brisk, which suits drift diving among surgeonfish, whitetip reef sharks and hunting dogtooth tuna.
