Four Mile Rock Barges

Also known as: 4 Mile Rock Barges · Four Mile Barges

Two very large steel barges sit roughly parallel to each other on an otherwise flat bottom off Four Mile Rock. Their decks are largely intact, with some holes large enough for divers trained in wreck penetration. Lingcod, greenling and most local rockfish species use the structure, and Emerald Diving singles out schooling vermilion rockfish. The sides are covered in plumose anemones, tunicates, sponges, sea stars and nudibranchs. Because the barges lie in shipping lanes and current can prevent a return to an anchored boat, a live boat and a large dive flag are recommended.
