Aichi E13A Jake

Also known as: Jake

The Jake was a single-engine, twin-float seaplane flown by a crew of three and used widely by the Imperial Japanese Navy. This aircraft lies alone on sand with many of its features still intact. Bullet holes and a crimped area near the tail hint at battle damage and later salvage or disposal, and archaeologists think it may have been towed out and dumped. Fish, corals and sponges have settled on the plane, and schools of fish shelter under an exposed wing. A 3D photogrammetry model of the Jake was made during a trial course with a Saipan dive shop.
