Sherman Tanks

The tanks are among the most striking relics of the Battle of Saipan, with their turrets standing out of the water. Divernet describes wading about 200 m across seagrass at low tide to reach the first tank, which is still intact with its gun pointing at the shore. A second tank lies about 100 m further out near the fringing reef. One of the three is a wet-stowage variant, and visitors can look into the turrets and swim around the tracks. The site suits snorkellers and non-divers as much as divers.
