Victorian Guns
Also known as: Ricasoli Cannons
The cave below Fort Ricasoli is thought to have formed when part of the fort collapsed, bringing the guns down with it. One 38-ton 12.5-inch gun and two 25-ton 12-inch guns lie in the well-lit cavern, which has a hole in its roof. Outside, a vermetid reef holds octopus, cuttlefish, damselfish, wrasse and moray eels. The site lies close to the Grand Harbour entrance, so boats pass near the shore and a surface marker buoy is advised.
