B-24 Liberator

Also known as: Liberator B-24 Bomber · Consolidated B-24 Liberator

After a bombing raid one Liberator developed engine trouble and returned to Malta, but after several failed landing attempts at Luqa the crew had to ditch at sea. The wreck was found by a remote sensing survey in 2015. The wings are well preserved and partly covered in growth, and two of the four engines still carry propellers. It was opened to divers on 1 August 2020 and needs a Heritage Malta permit.
