Sun Burnt Country

Also known as: Sunburnt Country

The crew mistook the lights of Tabou and Amédée for the line of Boulari Pass and hit the Abore reef, from which the boat was towed free after about ten days. The damaged polyester hull was stripped and sunk on 25 July 1989, and Noumea Diving relocated it in 1992. The empty hull lets daylight in and shelters a large grouper and swarms of juvenile fish. A school of groupers splits between bow and stern, and stinging black corals grow on the rigging. Visibility is usually around 10 to 15 m.
