GPS Point

GPS Point lies about 10 km north-east of Komodo off Gili Banta. Currents often reach 3 knots, easing somewhat at depth, and safety stops can be tricky. The current draws dogtooth tuna, schools of barracuda, jacks, rainbow runners and surgeonfish, as well as grey reef, white-tip and nurse sharks. Hammerheads and Napoleon wrasse are occasionally seen, and the rocks hold snowflake morays, nudibranchs, cuttlefish and clouds of anthias. Part of the coral was damaged by blast fishing in the 1990s, but the fish life remains the attraction.
