HTMS Hanhak Sattru

Also known as: Hanhak Sattru Wreck · HTMS Hanhaksattru · HTMS Hanhaksattru 312

The HTMS Hanhak Sattru is the sister ship of the Suphairin, a 44.9 m Royal Thai Navy fast attack craft that was scuttled in September 2023 where Aow Mao opens to the sea on Koh Tao's east coast, just north of Laem Thian. It stands upright on sand at about 22 to 24 m, and its highest point reaches up to about 13 m. Its specialty is a sheltered east-coast wreck: when the southwest monsoon makes the west coast rough, roughly from May to September, it usually offers calm water and light current. The bridge, the mast and the weapon mounts are still in place, and the wreck already draws barracuda, groupers, giant trevally, fusiliers and snapper, with Jenkins whiprays and blue-spotted stingrays on the surrounding sand. Some centres combine it with a relaxed swim up the reef slope of Aow Mao; most centres recommend Advanced Open Water, one rates it suitable for Open Water divers, and penetration is only for trained wreck divers.
