Otchogahama
The coast here is made of older rock from the Mihara-yama side of the island, eroded into sharp, steep formations unlike the rugged lava of the northwest. On the right, a cave or tunnel about 30 m long shelters spiny lobsters, slipper lobsters and schools of sweepers, and shops call the area a paradise for nudibranchs. On the left, divers follow a channel full of anemonefish to a drop-off that falls to about 35 m, where dogtooth tuna and occasionally hammerheads pass. The semi-artificial tide pool in the middle is reassuring for beginners. Parking is restricted in summer and a school pool and swimming beach share the shore.
