Parcel do Coronel
Also known as: Parcel dos Coroneis · Lage do Coronel
The shoal lies a few hundred metres off the Lage do Coronel near the Angra dos Reis harbour channel and is marked by a navigation buoy. Giant blocks of granite gneiss stack up into narrow passages and tunnels that divers weave through, so good buoyancy control matters, not least because of the many sea urchins. The rocks are crowded with angelfish, groupers and comb groupers, and rays, turtles and passing pelagic fish are seen regularly. A current of one to two knots can run over the site, and the boat ride from Angra dos Reis or Paraty takes more than half an hour.
