Ilha de Jorge Grego
Also known as: Ilha do Jorge Grego
The island is reached by a boat ride of about 40 minutes from Abraão around the eastern end of Ilha Grande. On the protected inner side, facing Lopes Mendes and Dois Rios, divers find sand and boulders forming passages and the remains of a fishing boat at 9 to 20 m. The exposed outer side drops further, with small caves and depths to 42 m that suit advanced divers. Colourful corals and sponges cover the rocks, and the fish life includes groupers, morays, turtles and octopus, with dolphins sometimes seen in summer. Trips depend on the weather, because the island lies outside the sheltered bay.
