Arch of Ofalanga

Also known as: Ofalanga's Arch · The Arch of Ofolanga · The Arch

Tonga Pocket Guide calls it the biggest known coral arch in the South Pacific, and several sources say it formed during the last ice age. The dive starts at about 20 m and passes under the arch, which measures roughly 20 m across and 15 m in height. Behind it an opening known as the Shark's Mouth leads into a dark tunnel that is tight in places, with large lobsters and shrimps holding on to its roof and walls. The tunnel opens into a cave system of three caverns. Corals and sponges cover the rock, and because the site lies far offshore it is only dived in good weather.
