Schurz

Also known as: USS Schurz · SMS Geier · Geier

The ship was seized by the United States in Honolulu, renamed USS Schurz, and sank on 21 June 1918 after colliding with the SS Florida. Its intact boilers, deck guns, anchor and rudder stand out in a sprawling wreck, and live ammunition and bullets are still found around it. The site is often blanketed by baitfish, which can make navigation tricky. Sand tiger sharks, amberjack, grouper, cobia, stingrays and turtles are frequently reported. Divers say there is something new to discover on every visit.
