HMT Bedfordshire

Also known as: Bedfordshire · HMS Bedfordshire

The torpedo destroyed most of the ship, so the highest structure rises only a few feet above the sand and the single boiler is the clearest landmark. The bow lies at an angle some distance from the main wreck. I-beams, plates, machinery and several depth charges are scattered around the site. Large schools of amberjack and spadefish, black sea bass, grouper and occasional sand tiger sharks are reported. Olympus founder George Purifoy was among the divers who identified the wreck by its steering stand.
