SS Carthage
Also known as: Carthage · Chartage · SS Carthage (CGT)
Carthage was built in 1910 by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson and served as an armed transport for the French Navy during the war. While unloading off Cape Tekke on 4 July 1915 it was torpedoed by U-21 and sank within minutes, with the loss of 75 seamen according to Divernet. Its position remained unknown until wreck researcher Selçuk Kolay found it in 2015. The remains are well preserved and rest on sand decorated with colourful sponges. Currents can be strong and visibility varies, so the site is for technical divers only.
