Helles Barges
Also known as: Helles Barçları
Barges like these carried soldiers, supplies, pier materials and animals between the transport ships and the landing beaches of the Gallipoli campaign. The two Helles barges lie near each other off Tekke Bay below Cape Helles. The smaller, about 18 m long, still shows its anchor and chain at the bow, while the larger, about 23.5 m long, has its steam boiler lying in the sand next to the hull. The TINA research team identified a wheeled steam engine (locomobile), used for water purification, next to one of the hulls. Local dive centres offer the site as a recreational wreck dive.
