Arıburnu Lighter

Also known as: Arıburnu Layter · Ariburnu Layter

Lighters, also called mule barges, moved stores and animals between ships and the beach, and this one has a ramp door at the bow for landing directly on the shore. It measures about 11.5 by 3.5 m. When the Allies left Arıburnu in December 1915 they destroyed or sank equipment they could not take with them, and this lighter is believed to have been scuttled then. It is one of several landing craft remains off the Anzac coast that the park opens to divers.
